Can MEA Gate Services repair or service a system installed by another company?
Can I automate my existing manual gates?
Yes, this is actually how the business started. We know many companies are not happy to touch a gate system installed by someone else but we understand this can cause difficulties for you as the homeonwer. If you've not been happy with the quality of the work, you weren't happy with the service you've been given or the business is no longer trading, we can help. Check out our feedback and recent work to see the standard of our service.
Which locations do MEA Gate Services cover?
Yes, in most cases this is possible. A free of charge site survey would need to be carried out to access the layout of the overall site, to ensure gates, hinges and posts are structurally sound and check the gate leaf alignment.
What happens if we have a power cut?
How often do I need to have my electric gates serviced?
Just like your car, every electro-mechanical machine will breakdown at some point. As gates are subjected to the elements we recommend residential properties having one service every 12 months and twice per year for commercial gate systems.
Will I need planning permission for gates?
Possibly, there are different rules for each county, however it is usually only required for gates over 1.8m high. We do advise all clients to contact their local planning office for advice to ensure they have the relevant planning permissions or listed building consent in place ahead of any work starting.
What are some ways I can look after the gates myself?
All good installation companies will provide home owners with manual release keys and instructions on how to release the automation system in the event of a power cut. Some electric gate systems also come with a battery backup option. However, all systems come with a manual release that can be used in the event of a power failure.

Some common ways to maintain your gates, especially in winter are as follows:
- Ensure photocells are no covered. Leaves and mud can often cause issues by blocking these sensors
- Hold gates open during strong wind and named storms,.
- During icy weather, give the gates additional time to warm up, just as you would your car.
- Treat wooden gates annually to a weather resistant oil stain. This can help prevent water damage and delay rotting, ensuring your gates last for many years to come
